For the days when you’re not even sure what you’re feeling anymore.
Today’s Scripture: Matthew 11:28 (NIV)
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Can We Talk for a Minute?
Have you ever been so emotionally exhausted that you don’t even feel tired anymore?
You just feel… numb.
Not necessarily sad. Not necessarily angry. Not even sure what you’re feeling.
You’re just sitting there, staring at absolutely nothing, while somehow thinking about everything and nothing at the exact same time.
It’s a strange feeling, isn’t it?
Your mind is full, but you can’t seem to grab hold of a single thought long enough to make sense of it.
There’s so much going on inside your head, yet everything feels quiet at the same time.
And if someone asks you what’s wrong?
You don’t even know how to answer.
Because how do you explain something you can’t quite understand yourself?
The Strange Loneliness of Being Overwhelmed
Can I tell you something that doesn’t always make sense?
Sometimes when I’m overwhelmed, I want everyone to leave me alone.
But at the very same time, I wish someone would notice that I’m struggling.
I want quiet, but I don’t want to feel forgotten.
I want someone to help, but I don’t want to have to explain what I need.
Because the truth is, sometimes I don’t even know what I need.
I just know I’m tired.
And the thought of trying to explain everything going on inside my head feels like one more thing I don’t have the energy to do.
Have you ever felt that way?
Like you desperately want someone to understand you, but you don’t have the words to help them understand?
I think one of the hardest parts of emotional exhaustion is feeling like you have to explain your pain before you’re allowed to receive comfort.
And that’s something I find so beautiful about God.
He doesn’t need me to explain what I can’t even understand myself.
Romans 8:26 (NIV) reminds us that when we don’t know what to pray, the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness.
Think about that for a minute.
Even when we can’t find the words, God hasn’t stopped listening.
We can sit in His presence without having everything figured out.
We don’t have to explain why we’re quiet.
We don’t have to apologize for being overwhelmed.
And we don’t have to pretend that we’re okay.
Sometimes the most honest prayer we can offer is simply:
“Lord, I don’t know what I need right now. But You do.”
And maybe that’s where we begin.
Here’s What I’ve Been Thinking About…
Why do we put so much pressure on ourselves to be strong all the time?
Somewhere along the way, I think we started believing that having faith meant always being okay.
That if we trusted God enough, we wouldn’t feel overwhelmed.
That if we prayed hard enough, we wouldn’t have days when everything felt like too much.
But Jesus never promised us a life without difficult days.
And He certainly never told us we had to pretend those days weren’t difficult.
In Matthew 11:28, Jesus doesn’t tell us to come to Him after we’ve figured everything out.
He doesn’t say to come when we’re feeling stronger.
He invites the weary and burdened.
That’s us, friend.
The women carrying worries nobody sees.
The mothers wondering if they’re doing enough.
The wives trying to keep everything together.
The daughters, sisters, friends, and caregivers who spend so much time showing up for everyone else that they sometimes forget they need someone to show up for them, too.
And here’s what I love about that invitation.
Jesus doesn’t ask us to earn our rest.
He offers it.
Maybe You Need This Reminder Today
You don’t have to be everything to everybody.
You don’t have to find the perfect words to explain what you’re feeling.
You don’t have to pretend you’re okay just because someone else might have it worse.
And you don’t have to feel guilty for needing a little quiet.
Sometimes faith looks like moving mountains.
But sometimes faith looks like sitting on the edge of your bed, completely overwhelmed, and whispering, “God, I need You.”
Both matter.
Both are real.
And both are seen by a God who loves you.
Maybe today you don’t need another list of things to accomplish.
Maybe you don’t need someone telling you to be stronger or think more positively.
Maybe you just need to be reminded that you are allowed to be tired, and you are still deeply loved by God.
Let’s Pray Together 🙏
Heavenly Father,
Sometimes I don’t even know how to explain what’s going on inside me.
My mind feels full, my heart feels tired, and there are moments when I feel absolutely nothing at all.
Sometimes I want to be left alone, but I don’t want to feel alone.
I want someone to understand what I’m going through, but I don’t always have the words or energy to explain it.
Lord, thank You for understanding me even when I don’t understand myself.
Thank You for seeing the struggles I don’t talk about and hearing the prayers I can’t put into words.
Help me release the things I’ve been carrying.
Teach me that resting doesn’t mean I’m failing and that needing help doesn’t make me weak.
Quiet my thoughts when they become overwhelming.
Give me peace when I feel numb, comfort when I feel lonely, and strength for whatever tomorrow brings.
And on the days when I don’t know what I need, remind me that I can simply come to You.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
A Little Heart-to-Heart 🌷
Before you rush off to the next thing on your list, I want you to think about something.
When was the last time you allowed yourself to be still without feeling guilty about it?
Not scrolling through your phone.
Not mentally making tomorrow’s to-do list.
Not worrying about everything waiting for you.
Just being still.
Maybe today you can give yourself five minutes.
Five minutes to sit quietly.
Five minutes to talk to God, even if all you can say is, “I’m tired.”
Five minutes to remember that you don’t have to have all the answers.
And friend, if you’re in that place right now where you feel like you’re thinking about everything and nothing all at once, I hope you’ll remember this:
You don’t have to explain your exhaustion to God before He offers you rest.
He already knows.
And He’s still inviting you to come.
With love,
Overthinking Mama 💗
A Few Moments With God 🌸
If you have a journal nearby, grab it. If not, just spend a few quiet moments thinking about these questions. There’s no pressure to have the perfect answers.
- What have I been carrying emotionally that I haven’t shared with anyone?
- When I feel overwhelmed, what kind of support would help me most?
- What would it look like to give myself permission to rest without guilt?
- What is one burden I can surrender to God today?
Remember, friend: You don’t have to figure everything out today. Just take the next step with God. 💗
